They point out censorship in the most recent episode of Date A Live

A series of screenshots were posted on a popular comment board in Japan showing that an ecchi scene from the sixth episode of the fourth season of the anime Give A Livewas not adapted as most expected“. The post refers to the scene where Shidou Itsuka, the protagonist, is “assaulted” by the girls while taking a bath at the facility.

The original scene, whose illustration from the light novels we leave below, showed the girls completely naked entering the room (although evidently its parts were covered either by hair or by water vapor).

However, apparently the scene was “too” for the television station in question or perhaps for the production team, who decided to add towels to all the girls in the scene. Even Kotori Itsuka, who was wearing a swimsuit in the original scene, was changed to wear a towel that covers almost her entire body.

This attracted negative feedback from fans both inside and outside of Japan, who noted that the anime Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai and Odekakechuu (Skeleton Knight in Another World) had a similar scene starring Ariane, which was faithfully adapted in the anime. It is worth mentioning that this anime is broadcast only an hour and a half after the schedule of Date A Live IV on Japanese television.

Featured comments included:

  • «This is probably due to broadcast regulations.».
  • «The original illustration had no towels… Date A Live had already shown a lot of butts and stuff in the shower scenes in the first season…»
  • «It is definitely very strange to see a girl walking into a bathroom wearing a towel that covers her entire body. At least hide it with your hair or with steam».
  • «In the old days they even showed you the nipples directly».
  • «Bath towels are not taken to the bathroom, they are atrocious. You’re supposed to clean up after you get out of the bathroom, not inside».
  • «It would not be surprising if it is a measure to please the Chinese public».
  • «Japan’s poor animation industry, subjected to the demands of the Chinese public…»
